Welcome to the version 1.02 release of WcEDIT!
WcEDIT! is a revolutionary new message editor for the Wildcat Sysop.
it provides an offline reader interface to the Wildcat databases and
supports almost all of the Wildcat features. It also adds a few of
it's own that you will find indispensable. In fact, to quote most
of my beta testers "It's addicting!".
Try it and I think you will agree.
..Joe Lemoine (1:390/3@fidonet)
To those of you that are anxious to get started, here is some short notes
to get you on your way.
INSTALLING WcEDIT! FOR THE FIRST TIME
------------------------------------
1. WcEDIT! requires a 30-Day trial key to operate. You can get
one very easily from my bbs at (504)-796-5860. Simply sign
on using this name and password:
What is your FIRST name ? !WCEDIT TRIAL KEY
Don't forget the Exclamation point! That will take you directly
to the WcEDIT! trial key door on my system. Once in it, you will be
asked for the information neccessary to generate your key. Once you
save the information, a key will be generated and you will be
prompted for a protocol to use to download it. Once downloaded,
make a BACKUP OF THIS KEY! The WcEDIT! trial door will only generate
one key per system.
2. Backup your whole system! WcEDIT! directly accesses most
database files of Wildcat directly.
3. Create a directory called \WCEDIT.
4. Unarchive the contents of WCEDT101.ARJ into the \WCEDIT
directory.
5. If using a multiline version of Wildcat, set a unique
WCNODEID environment for WcEDIT! to use. For a single line
version of Wildcat, suspend ALL programs that access the
Wildcat databases. ^^^
6. Run WCEDIT.EXE and edit the configuration to reflect your
preferences. At a minimum, you must enter your name and
the home drive/directory of Wildcat.
! WARNING ! ! WARNING ! ! WARNING ! ! WARNING !
----------------------------------------------------------
WcEDIT! DOES NOT have the ability to run at the same time as the
SINGLE line version of Wildcat or it's utilities! PERIOD!
HISTORY
-------
1.02 Fixed a problem with TNET and WcEDIT! Under certain
conditions, TNET would repeat the tagline over and over in a
message that had been written with WcEDIT! It would only
happen if the tagline plus product id and serial number were
greater than 77 characters.
The Tagline plus product id and serial number line can now
be up to 80 characters instead of 77.
If a conference has personal mail waiting for you and it is
not a selected conference, WcEDIT! will now override the
selected flag and show the conference in the Area Picklist.
Fixed a problem with trying to print a message to a printer on
another machine in a network when that machine was turned off
and the printer was unavailable.
1.01 Added the ability to view expanded nodelist detail on a
highlighted system when browsing the FidoNet nodelist by
hitting the spacebar.
When replying to an echomail message by Netmail using the Forward
Message command, Nodelist lookup was not functioning. Fixed.
If your FidoNet address is configured as a Point address,
entering a partial node address in a new netmail message would
result in your point being added to it.
Speeded up preprocessing of the raw tagline file at startup by
about a factor of 6.
Added duplicate checking of stolen taglines. You will be
informed if the tagline is a duplicate and it will not be
added.
Added ability to jump around randomly in the tagline picklist
by hitting [Alt-R]. This only works if you have Tagline
Selection configured as "Choose".
Quoted and Salutation lines can now be configured to insert the
subject of a message by using the @SUBJ@ @-Code. I had to add
wordwrap routines to support this. Now, any line over 65
characters due to long subject fields will wrap to the next
line.
Replies to messages received by a Tnet/Tomcat type network
were being detected as duplicates. Every system EXCEPT the
one that sent the original message would get the reply.
Thanks go to Greg Hewgill for information leading to this fix.
A logic error prevented the transfer of a file attached to a
message to a local drive/subdirectory. This one got by us in
the wide beta.
Files could not be attached to a message if they were marked
as Read-Only or System. CD-Roms were affected mostly by this
bug. Fixed.
Files that are imported into the message base using the
"<<Filename.IMP" method are supported in the reader now. No
@-Code translating is supported yet but it is planned for the
next release.
1.0 Changed the way Fido Netmail flags are handled in anticipation
of the next release of Wildmail. All flags except the
extended flags (IMMediate and DIRect) are passed to your front
end by the standard flag bits in the message header. This is
not currently supported by Wildmail except for the crash bit.
If your mailer supports ^aFLAGS (D'Bridge does fully and Front
Door partially) you can put SET AFLAGS=ALL in your
autoexec.bat or Cat.bat files. To support only the extended
flags, change the line to SET AFLAGS=EXTENDED
If a conference has a line limit per message of less than 20
lines, WcEdit will no longer try to split the messages. it
will also limit the message text in the internal editor to the
line limit for that conference. This change is to support the
ten line limit in the RIME COMMON conference.
If a conference is configured as FORCED PRIVATE, any message
copied or moved to that conference by WcEDIT! will be marked
private.
Added error detection to trap improper filenames when saving a
message to a file.
Fixed a problem where titles were not being placed into
message headers correctly.
Fixed a problem that caused the screen blanker to not clear
the status line in 43/50 line mode.
Fixed a memory problem that was causing crashes under dv and
Lantastic.
Optimized the opening conference scan code for speed. This
will show up only on systems with slow hard drives
